What are some of your future plans for the brand?
I am currently working on some blankets, which I am hand-dyeing myself. I used Avocado to make it. I boiled a bunch of pits and I used iron in one of the batches and salt in another one and it gave me three different shades. To me that’s so crazy. The whole day went by and I was surrounded by all these pots and pans going “Oh my God.”
That’s really fun to me and that’s what I want to keep doing. I just want to keep experimenting with natural dyes going forward. Recently I've been moving into home and lifestyle stuff more, so I'm coming out with tea towels and pillows. It's the newest part of the process and it's really exciting.
Certainly parents are very much interested in finding the most natural products for their kids that is in line with their own tastes and sensibilities.
For me it’s just amazing that I can go to my neighbour’s tree, take leaves and boil them and end up with this peach colour. The more research I have done, the more I have gotten into it. I am just geeking out on natural dye. (laughs). Certain colours are affected by light a lot more and the quality of the colour will change over time. So each garment tells their own unique story over time.
