When we met years ago, you had also launched a jewelry line with a friend called Sunday’s Best carried at stores like Opening Ceremony. How did that come about and why did you guys put an end to it?
Sophia and I started Sunday’s Best while we both lived in NYC. We had both recently graduated from college and were working in jobs that we weren’t that excited about. We bonded over our diverse upbringings and both enjoyed fashion and jewelry and wanted to work together producing pieces that told a story and wove in parts of our childhood. We taught ourselves everything, we spent hours and hours scouring the jewelry district in NYC in search of our own casters, polishers and vendors and built relationships with these people. I don’t think either one of us thought it would catch on quite as fast and at the rate that it did. Stores that we coveted started carrying our stuff. Keep in mind we were doing all of this while we still had our “day jobs”. We ended up ultimately putting everything on hold because I was going through some stuff in my personal life and shortly after I actually ended up moving out of NYC.
It was definitely a lot of fun and I think about those days with a lot of fondness.
