How did you choose your vocation as a children’s wear designer?
The first job that I got out of school just happened to be for a children’s brand. I didn’t realize at the time that the fashion industry is very specialized and specific. Usually you don’t start out designing a collection, you focus on a category like bottoms or girl knitted tops, at least in the corporate world. But I was lucky because in this job I was able to design a whole tiny little collection myself. I was there for about three years and then I decided I wanted to move back to NY. I stayed in NY for the next four years. During that time I was still working for other corporate children’s wear brands. The GAP was the most recent one I worked with. I was doing sleep and underwear for kids and baby. I just basically got into the kids world and I really liked it.
