What happened after NY?
I left NY because we wanted to move to LA. When I got here I was freelancing a bit but I wasn’t really feeling it.
Then I had this opportunity to start my own thing, which to be honest I had not considered before, even though as a designer it is always an unspoken thing in the back of your mind. I had friends who had started their own lines, and I understood the reality of it. That it’s not glamorous and so much hard work. You really have to be completely devoted to what you are doing. You have to be ok with struggling for potentially years and years before you build your brand and even then it’s not a given that you have a safety net or financial stability.
But once I got here, things sort of fell into place and it became something that I could actually do. Also being in LA there are so many “Made in USA” mom and pop factories that I had access to and friends who were able to sort of show me the ropes for things like finding pattern-makers etc.
