What do you do to nurture your creative self?
I try as much as possible to carve out time to work with my hands...doesn’t really matter what it is...I need it in order to feel like myself. It’s very calming and regulating for me. I do my best thinking when I’m creating and working with my hands.
As a maker you were not content just focusing on interior design, you also started a company called Makers Hardware. Did one particular project bring this about?
While I was refurbishing furniture, I grew to really appreciate hardware (knobs, hinges, pulls, etc). I wanted to create a line of decorative hardware that would serve as jewelry for your furniture. Decorative pieces that you could add on to your old vintage pieces to give them a bit of an upgrade/ facelift. This clearly was informed by my background designing jewelry, designing housewares and refurbishing furniture.
I took a casting class and learned how to carve wax and cast the pieces into metal and started experimenting with what became Makers Hardware.
