You have credited your grandmother, who was a music manager to Seals & Crofts, as being an encouraging force in your musical development. Do you think that without her encouragements you would have had the same drive?
I set up in her basement one summer when I was 19 and recorded some songs. I was just figuring stuff out. She was retired by then, and we didn't talk a ton about the music but it was sweet - I can still see her sitting and listening - trying to evaluate what I was up to. There was a lot of love in her energy. She had a strong connection to music making. She loved it. She’d find parts that were interesting to her and point them out.
