What is your earliest music memory and how did you engage with music growing up?
I remember Elton John and Billy Joel LPs by the fireplace when I was little. I don't remember listening to them but the album cover art looked so interesting. Also 1984 was a big year. My mother made me a Michael Jackson birthday cake and I was given a thriller jacket. I also got a cassette of Van Halen’s 1984. Maybe the most vivid memory is making my first personal music purchase (from the mall). I was living in a small town outside of Nashville, TN. I remember the airbrush T-shirt stand and the parachute pants and the 7” When Doves Cry single I bought. The B-side was called 17 Days and I thought it was great. My older brother and I would play it over and over on a plastic record player in our tiny apartment, dancing around in circles on the tan carpet. I was 7.
